Study Abroad Student Highlight:
Ava Austin
“Studying at the University of Amsterdam has been a fantastic experience. I’ve learned to love walking and to accept that the weather can (and will) change at any moment, so I carry a raincoat everywhere. All of my friends are from different countries, which makes the soccer– I mean– football games intense and the potlucks delicious. Courses are challenging but also deeply interesting, and the classrooms overlook the canals. The people here are well-traveled, like techno music for reasons I’ll never understand, and will smile at you when you’ve both just finished biking up a steep hill. Grateful to have had this opportunity. Best, Ava”
Showcase of Student Work (Instructional Unit Bulletin Boards) for ENG 655: Literature and the Adolescent Reader
Working together in secondary grade-level committees, students in ENG 655 create a bulletin board that visually represents a thematic unit focused on an Essential Question. The unit includes four different kinds of texts (YA, informational/non-fiction, visual, and an anchor text) and three shorter supporting texts to provide students with background information. The bulletin boards also list student learning outcomes, relevant Common Core State Standards, sample learning activities, and a description of the unit’s culminating assessment.
